Almost done taking everything down, cleaning, labeling and storing all of the display. Man... does the yard look dark at night... I miss the display already... Still have the spirit, the drive and ideas to work on things for next year. Please keep watching.. and if you notice a long period with no activity on the blog or the calendar ... send me a message and tell me to "GET BACK TO WORK BOB !!!"

Sandra and I really hate that we have seen people come to see the display and arrived at a dark house and for that we appologize. We did our best in updating the website to notify visitors of the problem with the display that occured on Christmas Day (Sandra's Birthday too)
However, it really only got us down for the day.. We have already been talking, planning and even working on a new display for next year ... New display elements New songs New layout... The favorites WILL BE BACK ... (I'm talking to all the train lovers out there... we had a lot of comments on the train ... ) .. Keep watching throughout the year .. Yeah .. I know .. come February.. NO ONE is thinking about Christmas .. BUT ... we are .. I will update the calendar, the blog and the website ... Once I find out what pictures we did manage to get.. I will update the websites picture area for 2012.. I can tell you that we didnt get any video this year (yeah I know .. I waited one day to long .. ) Thank you again to EVERYONE that came out to see our display.. we enjoyed every minute of it and enjoyed meeting every one of you... Bob and Sandra We are very sorry but the show for 2012 is over. Today at around 3:30 to 4:00 we had a gust of wnd clocked at 74.7 MPH take the MERRY CHRISTMAS sign off the roof and slam it on to the gound part of the display.
The frame to the sign was destroyed along with a mini-tree, 2 of the new Mini-North-Poles and the yard grid. The MegaTree bent over when the hay ring moved about 3 feet. We thought the MegaTree was going to fold in half. Wind speed was clocked from one of the local weather stations reporting on http://www.wunderground.com Thank you to everyone that came out to see our display this year. We will rebuild and hopefully come back bigger and better for next year... Keep watching the site, the blog and our calendar for updates throughout the year... Merry Christmas to all .. and to all.. a good night .. Bob and Sandra Thank you to everyone that came to see our display. We had the BEST night EVER !!!
This gets more and more fun every year !!! Thanks to the Postcards article, Facebook and word or mouth we are seeing more and more smiling faces at our display !!! We love to see you ... Come on down!!!
Bob and Sandra last night was ROUGH ride weather wise. We lost power about 3:00AM and the wind was HOWLING. Local reports show winds gusting 40+ MPH with a steadwind of 30+ for quite a while. The base frame of the MegaTree has moved about a foot but no visable damage to the tree or the pole. As you can see in the photo, the MERRY part of our sign is now facing South East instead of due South. Consider the MERRY part of the sign is a tad over 10' long it stretches from the "C" in the Christmas part of the sign to the very EDGE of the roof. Look closely and yuo can see the concrete pads went with it!!! We got VERY lucky, but we are proud that the sign stood up to the winds that Mother Nature threw at it and stayed on the roof intact... at 6:20am I was on the roof, upper 20 wind chill and repositioned the sign and added some additional weight ... With any luck, after work, I can check it out and all will be good. The only thing I saw was the two power cables to the controlled came unplugged... This cold front blast was powerful and FAST moving.. we are watching the forums and hoping that we dont hear from friends with displays destroyed by the frontal passing ... Well needless to say its a little breezy here in Crabbs Prairie today. Chilly the penguin is feeling a little south breeze and is trying is darnedest to stand up and brave the elements. Funny thing is .. the power doesn't come on for another 1/2 hour and he is almost fully blown up .. LOL .. Good for you Chilly .. stand up and be seen !!! The BIG day finally arrived!!... After a lot of time, money and HARD WORK, Chad Miller is now a graduate from Sam Houston State University (EAT EM UP KATS).. my alma mater as well. Sandra and I are very proud of Chad. He has a desire to enter in to health care. A field that he is very well suited for. Please join us in wishing Chad all the best as he begins a new chapter in his life. A life he intends to dedicate to helping others. We all love you .... Mom, Bob, Candice and Jerrod. Well, last night I thought the train part of the display was a goner... I grumped around the house and was not a happy camper ... ask Sandra .. she can attest ... LOL .. (Thank GOD she loves me .. or she would NOT put up with me !!! ) ..
Without the icky details.. lets just say I now know what NOT use to clean and lubricate a train ... But with the help of someone I have NEVER met, but call a friend, JimH from PlanetChristmas.com, the train has been reborn. Its pulling ALL the cars and is running GREAT !!! THANKS Jim .... If you ever get to Texas or I get to Cali,,,, I owe you dinner !!! Merry Christmas !!!! Bob Well todays rain proved a little scary.
We lost power at one time today. The X10 controller that has the laptop plugged into its "passthrough" (or at least i thought it was) .. connection didnt energize when the power came back on so the laptop running the show ran down and powered off.. no biggie .. annoying .. but not a deal breaker.. The X10 module for the train decided to turn itself on .. which I discovered when I took the train out to put on the track.. thats just a.. huh .. moment.. When the show started I noticed the DMX North Poles were not on .. again .. power out, reset .. yadda yadda .. BUT .. the DMX controller was offline .. RUT ROE .. I took it all down.. checked it out. The controller is good and the power supply is okay .. so whats tripping the GFI ?? FINALLY figured out it was the LOR box for the yard grid (makes sense.. ) and the DMX controller was on that circuit.. moved the DMX controller and VIOLA !!! we are good .. Of course .. the yard grid is OFF for tonight .. wet socket somewhere so we'll wait for it to dry out.. Updated the website and added a scrolling marqee across the main page to let folks know that the show is running but the yard grid is OFF .. So MUCH FUN !!! LOL ... |
