Its not complete, but I have started the burn on the Christmas part of the Merry Christmas sign. I just threw together a looping sequence and let it run. Considering I can see it from across 2 acres of pasture ... I'd say its going to be great !! Keep watching, more pictures coming soon and maybe a little video snippet... if I can get the camera to pick up the colors ...

WOW .. are there a lot of connections to be made in this sign !!! Just a quick update. The frame is painted and standing. The letter panels are installed, and all the pixels are mounted. Now comes the FUN part. Wiring it all up. With the spacing on the pixels its not just a matter of putting the pixels in the holes and they are done. Almost every letter has to have the pixels cut and extended (Except the letter M.. that one is just a single string).
I did complete the CHRISTMAS part yesterday (07/28/13) and will work on the MERRY section over the next couple of nights. I am taking pictures of the process and will get them downloaded, sized and posted shortly. Be sure to check the HOW-TO for progress. If this thing come out ANYTHING like it does in my head Work continues on the Merry Christmas sign. Here it is with all the panels in place. I still have some work to do securing all the panels but once done, we should be ready for paint. The white end on the right was a test to see if we wanted to paint the frame white ... looks good when its lit up.. but .. not so much during the day .. we are going black with the frame. It should have a "floating" effect at night when the frame di We got the frame in from Huntsville Steel and Fabrication on 07/19/13. Todd and his crew an EXCELLENT job on the frame. It actually came out better than I had hoped for. Thanks to all you guys for a GREAT job.... I started this weekend with the build up. I have to drill the holes for the screws to hold the coro panels that David over at HolidayCoro cut for us. We also updated the How-To page for the Merry Christmas Sign . We will be adding to it as the project moves forward, so stop by often and see how its going. If the sign in person look anything like it looks in the sequencer... ITS GOING TO BE AWESOME !!! (can you tell I am a little excited? ) Until next time .... You really wouldn't think a web site based on a Christmas decorating obsession would take up that much time ... I didn't either ... I was wrong ...
We have posted several updates to the web site. Mostly convienent links scattered throughout to make navigation a little easier or intuitive. Updates to the home page and the How-Tos . I realized I didnt post any picture updates of the 2012 display. I need to go dig those out. You have to remember that 2012 was the BEST and WORST year for our display. We had more people than ever come out to see us, thank in part to the Postcards Magazine article and word of mouth, but we also had a storm that tried to completely destroy our display on Christmas day prompting us to take it down early. I'm sure Sandra will tell me that I have enough to do as it is (she is my voice of reason and sanity) but I will try to get some 2012 updates posted soon.. Before you know it .. it will be time for the 2013 updates!! I have been remiss in keeping up with the blog lately. I would like to say that its becasue I have been in the shop working like an elf .. but .. alas .. that is not the case ..
A few updates though. On July 12th through the 14th I attended the Lone Star Holidays 2013 Academy. I hadnt been in a couple of years so it was really good to get back and see people I have known and talked with on the Christmas forums. One REALY special event this year was a chance to meet and attend classes by Eddy Vassallo ... AKA FastEddy on the forums. For those that havent met or chatted with Eddy, he came in from Australia to present classes on the Light Show Pro software. I had looked at LSP a couple of times and having been a LOR user for so long, LSP just didnt sink in. I have to personally thank Eddy for the classes and for the one on one time I got with him. He really helped me to understand the application. Project Status: I am still waiting (grrrr) on the Merry Christmas sign frame. I have a working model of the Arduino MicroProcessor project for the Little Tykes train display I still have to work on the candy cane pinewheel - I will dedicate a new controller that I received while at the academy (A new Minleon DMX based 16 channel AC controller to test and eval..) to this project. STILL have to rework the Hay Ring Platform for the MegaTree... (ARGHHHH) and finally .... SEQUENCE SEQUENCE SEQUENCE ... If you have followed us at all this year you know we have been active all year. Here is mid July and guess what?...... I'm BEHIND ... again .. Hopefully, with the new software, I can make some headway on the sequencing and the rest of the projects will all start to come together... Sandra and I are SO excited about this year. We have a LOT of new things to debut (probably bit off more than we can chew .. but .. what about that is a surprise to anyone??? More to follow soon .. Thanks for reading ... |
